In September 1915, a completely new pattern of tunic called the M15 was released The "Bluse" was to be used by all units, including cavalry (Except the Bayern / Bavarian Army who did not adopt this style until march 1916). The tunic was made with a looser cut than earlier uniforms, which allowed heavier undergarments to be worn as well as giving the wearer greater mobility and comfort. The Stahlhelm was approved for general issue in the New Year of 1916, and in February 1916, it was distributed to troops at Verdun, following which the incidence of serious head injuries fell dramatically.
